YMCA Partners with the Paul Goebel Group for the 7th Annual Suits From Suits Campaign

Grand Rapids, MI (May 12, 2014) – The YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids and the Paul Goebel Group have partnered together to kick off the annual Suits From Suits Campaign.  The campaign, which runs through June 6, 2014, is designed to help provide a swim suit for children that participate in YMCA aquatics programs.  “Our goal is to remove all barriers to children in our community learning to swim,” stated Meg Goebel, President of the Paul Goebel Group.  Each year, more than 200 vulnerable children receive water safety instruction and the proper swimwear needed to participate.  Goebel added, “Without this campaign, many children simply don’t have the means to learn water safety, and as a community, we need to help change this.”

Community members can donate new or gently used swim suits by dropping them off at collection barrels located at each branch and at the offices of the Paul Goebel Group.  Individuals may also contribute $50, which will help one child learn to be safe in and around water. “Drowning is the 2nd leading cause of injury-related death among children under the age of 15.  These water safety classes are vital,” said Joe Edger, Aquatics Director at the David D. Hunting YMCA.  “Without the support of The Paul Goebel Group and the West Michigan Community, we wouldn’t be able to serve as many children.  The Suits From Suits Campaign is truly a community campaign,” Edger added.

In its seventh year, the Suits From Suits campaign has provided more than 1,500 swim suits for children in this community.  For more information about the Suits From Suits Campaign, contact Development at 616.855.9654.  To help one child learn to swim, give click on DONATE NOW.
